NORM HSD

Many oil and gas formations contain NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material). This flows up from the well with the produced hydro carbons and deposits in the platforms process installation contaminating piping and process equipment. As such piping and process equipment are considered to be radioactive. This is a common phenomenon occurring regularly in offshore installations.

The radioactive contamination usually is well contained inside the process installation but will become a hazard when this containment is broken as part of the dismantling process.

HSD has developed the required expertise and assets to deal with these aspects professionally. Our people are highly trained and qualified and our yard is fully licensed to execute NORM projects. HSD decontaminates the process installation so that it follow further regular recycling. The NORM residue that results from the decontamination process is handed over to specialized secured facilities for long term decay storage.
